Reflections on world travel

Since I a year in Buenos Aires, Argentina people sometimes questions spent me what was my experience and I would recommend it.

For example, here is a current reader question and my answer:

Further thoughts

A surprising result after a trip is that I definitely a much greater appreciation of the United States abroad,

People tend to romanticize foreign countries say people appreciate the important things in life, or are happier with what you have, or run generally simpler life based around noise, your E-mail 20 times on the day and being oriented to career.

It can be beautiful, this experience as a temporary reprieve from a busy life, but for the people who actually live abroad this romanticized idea quickly verdunstet.Mehr corruption exists (I witnessed both bribery by inspectors of the police and the city while in Buenos Aires,), taxes are higher, creating a big grey market) and there are plenty of counterfeit and petty theft. crime is an attractive option for people with fewer opportunities in life.

The U.S. has many shortcomings, but strictly on economic opportunity I have not seen a better place, still life. for me at least this is key, although clearly any difference has priorities.
