Skip the treaties when

I've seen start-ups recently a few sign your customers want contracts to get started.

The logic will use that you'll can guarantee recurring income for your business (for the duration of the contract) or some if the person does not pay.

But there are two errors with this thinking:

If your product is really good, customers stick around if you have a contract or NotIf of the customer owes less than a few thousand dollars, it is not even value to sue your time

So if a contract links you never will enforce you, ask why even for it in the first place?  All you do is a hurdle to get new customers for your product try create.

Google AdWords is a good Beispiel.Die most agreements in the advertising world are done still with paper contracts but decided that let Google advertising via AdWords someone in a few minutes without starting up front costs or contracts.

If not to pay, your AdWords account is Google not to sue you for $500.  It's not value your time. You shut down just your AdWords account, until you your Bill are ready bezahlen.Wenn of two years later you finally to try AdWords again, hey - no hard feelings - can it just numbers and your account is activated immediately.

When I see an Internet company, the questions for contracts, feels it must be not very good as your product - otherwise, why don't you would let me try it knowing I am likely to stick around?

Brian Armstrong

P.S. I certainly mean not to imply that all contracts are bad.For independent contractors, real estate, nothing to with larger sums of money, etc. can be made perfect sense. But most Internet companies are relatively small sums of money per person charge.

P.P.S.Ein is another way to look at "what would it cost you if the customer does not pay?"Most Internet companies have low marginal cost in their products (ad space, some CPU time, etc.).If high margins, to one you afford to give away all kinds of "free trials" in the form of people who is not bezahlen.Es once often worth it just to get your product in the hands of more people.

P.P.P.S.Die most companies (including Google) still make a "terms of service" agree to by clicking on a Kontrollkästchen.Verwechseln you this with a contract though.Die terms are usually to prevent * you * from sued, not the other way around, and it is that it will probably affect your signup prices sufficiently small hurdle.

Higher levels of abstraction

Risk of simplify could summarize the entire history of computer programming as a series of higher and higher levels of abstraction.

Early computers had only enable or disable individual bits that could flip.

Then came Assembly languages, allows you to edit numbers allowed.

C made possible strings, arrays, and all sorts of things.

More developments came with C++, Java, Ruby, etc..

With each iteration the languages produces less efficient code bit level, but programmer could write better things because it was easier to think at higher levels.Processors was faster, so this made for the slower code.

It's kind of funny, because still constantly in the tech community about the benefits of the various languages auftreten. In of usually will say a nerd debates "real programmers use X technology - it is newer, only so much effizienter.Sicher Y but it is just a toy, there is no scaling in the real world" during an other nerd is "eh - Y now with so and so it is Web-scale and the way of the future!"

It is important to the history in perspective to halten.Mit Moore's law for the foreseeable future continued it is hard to imagine programming, move continue not to higher and higher levels of abstraction.

As with all trends you have at the right time, so that not every technology right heute.Aber when you get to win at a time I would choose higher abstraction over speed code of every time.

If C came out there was probably some hardcore Assembly programmers who said "bah - C is a nice idea but is never fast enough on real machines".

And in 10 years it will probably some young, which says "use still Ruby? this is so low!"

Buy the best way to A new car (plus startup announcement)

Buying a new car of still sucks.

In person negotiations at car dealerships feeling obsolete and are uncomfortable for many Verbraucher.Und websites are not much better: while it research are a lot of good car sites, can not you actually the transaction online complete.

In fact, the State of the art online car buying has not changed in 10 years: the ubiquitous "request a quote" form that prompts you, make, model, and zip code type.

Many consumers don't realize that a "request a quote" form your contact at about 5 different car dealers for $20 each was sold and you are to start many spam messages (autogenerated offers not competitively-priced) and unwanted calls. These distributors are trained to try and get in the dealer and not enter your best online offers.

Where's the competition in this market?  Why can't you see how other users have rated a dealer, before you walk into a car dealership? Why can you all compare your items side-by-side in the same format? You pay why the final price is to get the car still unclear from the crowd?

The new start up I was recently in California this problem is solved. The company is CarWoo.com and we make a buy better car process, where dealers for your company to compete.

Here is the new home page (make sure the video for some more details check out):

And we have completed raising A round just $4.5 M of some outstanding investors.

And the press starts in.Dies roles is an exciting day! the whole team is in a camped large house in Washington, where we the digital dealer Conference present is really exciting section.this this process from the ground up to see have been!

Until next time keep breaking free!

Will be invented Google app pave the way for a raft of new businesses?

Welcome to IDDICTIVE - your daily fix of ideas of the company. If you do not want to miss one thing sure to capture updates by RSS feed or by email. It's free and you can cancel at any time.

So Google unveiled their inventor of the APP, which allows users to create mobile applications Android-based using a simple drag and drop interface.

"To use inventor app, there is no need be an APP développeur.Inventeur requires no programming knowledge." "This is because instead of writing code, you visually design how the application looks and use blocks to specify the behavior of the application".

When this type of idea has been applied to Online Edition, we have found with tens of millions of blogs, and a new industry. When it was applied to the design of web sites, we have companies like sound SquareSpace.Enregistrement: podcasts.Faible costs of video cameras and software for simple eidting: YouTube.Printing on demand: Blurb, Lulu and Newpaper Club.

Whenever you take something that used the technical skills or access to expensive equipment and make it accessible to the masses, the masses seem to grab it and run - all kinds of weird and wonderful things in the process of creation.

Inventor of the APP is the first big step exactly this for the mobile market app (there are other tools DIY app out there but nothing with this kind of influence behind) u.s. ' expect two things occur:

Create simplified individuals custom apps to help resolve their own daily needs or just for fun - some will emerge and become hitsNew, structures as the marketplaces for DIY, applications grow about themHyper-local apps that previously would not justify the cost of their creation, will become more common

Of course, it's really just a first temporary step and there are a lot of ground to cover.

Constructors APP will become even more simple and probably multi - platform .Apple will probably something in the works too, but the next thing in large in this space can be a well-branded, Wells-dos - something like a SquareSpace startup or perhaps even an Open Source, WordPress applications option.

Regardless of the format and regardless of the time scale, it is difficult to imagine that DIY apps become much more frequent - and this inevitably means new opportunities for creative entrepreneurs.

Guest post: the failure and innovation

Welcome to IDDICTIVE - your daily fix of ideas of the company. If you do not want to miss one thing sure to capture updates by RSS feed or by email. It's free and you can cancel at any time.

There is a contrast in the failure of company to the United States attitudes and Europe, and it is often cited as one of the reasons for the cultivation of lead more entrepreneurial innovation across the pond.

His visit to the United Kingdom 2009 Craiglist founder Craig Newmark was dismayed by the attitude to fail, he found. ""Failure is just a normal phase of his career in Silicon Valley," he commented on his blog. This contrasts with the Europe where 57% of the population do not invest money with someone who has not succeeded in the past and 47% would be less inclined to buy goods to a person who has had a patch on their careers in business.

These attitudinal differences have an enormous impact on the number of startups. At any time about 10% of the u.s. population are engaged in the process of setting up a business then that figure is approximately 4% to the United Kingdom and only 2% France.

Innovation and entrepreneurship, by their nature need to experiment with new ideas, many of whom will not be the expected for réussir.Tout worldwide fears of failure, but depends on innovation. A fear of failure can stifle the process of creating two ways.

Firstly, the stigma of failure makes people reluctant to try new choses.Cela can be a big problem in the new business and established as people play safe and stick to the status quo causing stagnation.

Secondly, people are afraid of failure will be persevere project neglected too long.In his book, the DIP guru Seth Godin marketing argues that successful people fail early and often fail. The secret is learning experience and ensure that the next project is not the same erreurs.Aux sides of the experience of learning that can bring the failure, it grows out of our comfort zone and requires us to do new things.

After pulling or dismissed, you ignore that you will be then, but one thing is for certain, if will be different and you'll have to improvise .the ' experience can be a crushing blow or exciting opportunity.

In 2008 K j. k. Rowling, author of the ubiquitous Harry Potter novels gave a speech at Harvard Graduate entitled "Fringe Benefits of failure".To become a world famous novelist.k. Rowling has undergone a series of revers.Rétrospective now, it considers that its failures allowed band more away from the inessential and focus on the only thing that she was gifted, writing.

In her speech, she said:

Failure gave me a homeland security that I had ever achieved by passing exams.Failed taught me things about myself that I wouldn't have learned any respond since knowledge that have emerged you wiser and more ways to reverse that you are never afterwards, secure your ability to survive.

I believe that.k. Rowling is on something ici.Je often tell my friends that their problem is that they do not have does not have enough in their career and therefore are pasted into Morne but well paid postes.Quelques failures along the way could their liberated from the fear of the unknown and gave them the permission they need daring.

Welcome to IDDICTIVE - your daily fix of ideas of the company. If you do not want to miss one thing sure to capture updates by RSS feed or by email. It's free and you can cancel at any time.

Peak: BruceTurner

We have written here before about how smart retailers may exceed focused on retail prices and become community centres. In doing so, they market themselves, diversify their sources of revenue, improve market share, keep their fingers on the pulse and have cashed lots of fun in the process.

Based in Austin Texas, Bike Shop Mellow Johnny's Lance Armstrong.Appeler seat a bike shop really does cover the si.

More than a retail box, launches and friends seek to make the store a hub of the cycle of life, travel, social activity, fitness, and a temple of living… .to two-wheeled serve cycling community is our work, but to convert people into cycling, life is our mission.

In practice, this means a café-restaurant, commuter bike, a regular schedule of events and classes, storage lockers retail store maintenance skills of traffic, a "formation of the State of the art test facility led by 6-Time Tour de France rider Kevin Livingston" and even has something of a gallery on the ground floor, housing photographic exhibitions.

It comes to retail destination shopping, service provider, educational organization, Carrefour and fun community general location to the dragging. It is a movement.

How could create the same type of effect in your industry and at the level of your local market?

Opportunities in misshapen vegetables

Welcome to IDDICTIVE - your daily fix of ideas of the company. If you do not want to miss one thing sure to capture updates by RSS feed or by email. It's free and you can cancel at any time.

I've seen just a programme on the BBC on the ridiculous amount of food we waste - and rather strange, it has struck an idea for a niche business.

We have all food waste in our homes based régulière.une loaf of bread which ends here or a just-after-its-sell-by-date juice carton.Supermarkets and restaurants are perhaps even more obvious culprits - Chuck frequently fruit, vegetable, bread and anything else that begins to look a little tired.

And, of course, much of what gets chucked out is perfectly comestible.Où picky consumers are involved, aesthetics won the.

But it begins even before it gets to the shops, with mountains of fruits and vegetables fresh ingredients went ever as grocery store shelves because it does comply with the spécifications.Apparemment, courgettes (Zucchini) for example must be between 17 and 21 cm - otherwise they are simply composted, tilled into the soil or fed to livestock.

So how about a niche market that sells exclusively misshapen veg, egg, begun in canned goods and too sous-taille bent bananas?

The goods may come at a discount by producers and suppliers eager to get rid of inventory which was rejected by major retailers and then sold to eco-savvy consumers and cost-conscious at a discount.

If you know a company that is already so - let me know.

RFID tags and QR codes learn the history of cumulative points
